There are spies in your midst. People whom you hold most dear and constants in life that we take for granted…they have probably betrayed you, perhaps unknowingly so! Items from our daily lives are surveilling you, collecting massive amounts of reconnaissance from your commute to work, how and where you shop, and even your own security settings; bits of information taken from you, each one a whisper easy to tune out and justify asking ‘Why bother stopping this one little thing?’ However, entities you interact with can, and do, abuse your information! These whispers grow and compound on each other until they peak at a constant torrent of information about you flowing into the clouds. The worst part about all of this? Your consent matters NOT; your data isn’t farmed from just you anymore. Their eyes are in the shadows, in the places where they weren’t meant to be. This new norm is scary and goes beyond just staying safe online. Get ready to explore the use of different data sources in our day-to-day interactions, and how they can be abused for not only profiling, but even stalking purposes.
